Psychological Support

The Office of National Statistics report that over 7% of work absences are due to mental health.

Employers can support their employees by supporting with psychological health which may result in improved productivity, performance and a reduction in days lost due to mental health symptoms.

LCG Occupational Health can arrange sessions for you which are undertaken by qualified and experienced therapists either remotely or face-to-face based on your preference. Group interventions can be arranged for critical incident, wellbeing, and stress.

Psychological support can be arranged through a variety of modalities including but not limited to:

Trauma-Focused Intervention:

This is a specific approach to therapy that recognises and emphasises understanding how the traumatic experience impacts behavioural, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. The therapy is rooted in understanding the connection between the trauma experiences and the responses experienced by the individual.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing:

EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the individual to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with traumatic memories.

Person-Centred Counselling:

This is also referred to as non-directive, client-centred therapy. This form of psychotherapy is grounded in the idea that people are inherently motivated toward achieving positive functioning.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy:

CBT is a type of talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave. It is most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems.

Bereavement Therapy:

Treatment following bereavement/loss helps individuals work through reactions to loss. This reaction may include behavioural and physical symptoms, extreme mourning, and being unable to separate emotionally from the person they have lost.

Lifestyle Coaching:

This involves working with a professional who helps individuals create and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Unlike other types of coaching the professional and individual will focus on areas of the person’s life such as career, fitness and health.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy:

(SFBT) is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and helps individuals by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems.

Interpersonal Therapy:

IPT is a talking treatment that helps people with depression identify and address problems in their relationships with family, partners and friends. The idea is that poor relationships with people in your life can leave you feeling low in mood. The therapist will guide you through your thoughts, and feelings and aid processing and coping strategies.

Critical Incident Stress Management:

CISM is an intervention protocol developed specifically for dealing with traumatic events. It is a formal, highly structured and professionally recognised process for helping those involved in a critical incident to share their experiences, vent emotions, learn about stress reactions/symptoms and be given advice for further treatment if required.

This intervention is not psychotherapy. It is confidential, voluntary and educational. It is often called ‘psychological first aid’. This type of intervention was first developed for use with military combat veterans and then civilian first responders (police, fire, ambulance, emergency workers and humanitarian rescuers).

It has been adapted and is used in various industries when a critical incident has occurred. Utilising CISM in the workplace after a traumatic event can help prevent staff sickness, Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder (PTSD) and burnout.
